バイオリン奏者/シタール奏者/音楽家 1978年埼玉県出身。10歳よりバイオリン、1998年よりアミット・ロイ氏にシタールおよびインド古典音楽を習い始める。2009年よりバンド活動を本格的に開始。現在、TAIKUH JIKANG、キウイとパパイヤ、マンゴーズ、Famous Japaneseに参加。5弦エレクトリック・バイオリンでは一部にギター弦を使用したダウン・チューニングと意図的に曖昧なフィンガリングを用いる事により、西欧音階に収まりきらない微妙な音程や音色を表現。またピック弾きなど変則的な演奏スタイルによって、アジア、アフリカ、ブラジルなど非西欧地域の弦楽器を想起させつつも地域民族の特定できない唯一無二のサウンドをクリエイトしている。伝統的なシタール演奏以外にはカスタム・エレクトリック・シタールを使用。いわゆる民族音楽を西洋音楽に導入するような形ではなく、バンドサウンドの中から生まれる新しいシタールの音を追求中。演奏活動のほか舞台や映像作品の音楽制作にも携わっている。

 

Go Arai started learning violin and classical music at the age of 10 then joined various rock bands during his high-school days. In college, he started training sitar and the theory of North Indian classical music under the guidance of Amit Roy,disciple of a great master Nikhil Benarjee. Go Arai is a graduate of Daito Bunka University, Tokyo, specialized in Asian Area Studies, Indian Modern History. He conducted many fieldworks in the Indian megapolis. In another hand he is following a career of professional musician, connecting violin and sitar to effects pedals and machines. He is regularly taking part to recordings, TV programs nationwide, and is a member of the groups TAIKUH JIKANG and KIWI & THE PAPAYA MANGOES, touring internationally.
